The ito ito story

An Eastern legend says that every person is inseparably connected to another by a red thread tied around their little finger. Through the “fate” of the thread, the two will eventually find each other—sooner or later.

»Ito« is the Japanese word for thread.

Every garment produced in the shared factory of ito ito is individually made as a one-of-a-kind piece for each of your customers. You only produce what your customers actually want: transparent, fast, responsible, and without waste.

ito ito Shared Factory 4

We are Friederike and Florian – the founders of ito ito. We have been working as designers and entrepreneurs for more than 20 years in Amsterdam and Bremen. With the Shared Factory, we are redefining the relationship between designers, producers, and wearers of fashion. We help fashion labels become more efficient and build a smarter, more sustainable ecosystem for fashion production.

In the Shared Factory, designers and fashion labels share the production capacities of local knitting mills – depending on demand, season, and orders. This allows for the implementation of a fully digitized on-demand supply chain that operates quickly, cost-effectively, and locally.

The fashion industry is responsible for 5% of global CO2 emissions. Additionally, 40% of all clothing is never worn or only worn once. Every second, the equivalent of a truckload of clothing is burned or dumped in a landfill.

On-demand production directly links demand to manufacturing. This avoids overproduction and costly discount campaigns, as each piece is individually made for each customer. Through our fully digitized supply chain, the entire production process becomes transparent. Data on the origin, resource consumption, and working conditions of each garment enables customers to make informed purchasing decisions.
